Thank You, Martha

Hi guys!  WHEW, this summer has been crazy-busy!  Our last few summers were kind of boring, so I really loaded this summer up with little trips and activities.  It’s been fun, but exhausting!  I did carve out some time over the weekend to make a few cards, though, so I’ll be sharing them here this week.

The theme of this card is…Stuff that I’ve had FOREVER and need to use, already!  🙂  These Martha punches, (flower and thank you) I’ve had them for a year or two, probably!  I also have a pretty large selection of glazed brads that I adore and can never find anything to put them on.   I was determined to use those three items on a card and I did it!

I love the background stamp, it’s part of a set by Hero Arts.  Very versatile.

CAS Challenge – Distressing

This is my card for the latest CAS challenge. We’re supposed to distress. I chose 3 distressing techniques to include:

  • Piercing
  • Sponging
  • Sanding

I covered little chipboard hearts with pattern paper, then sanded, pierced, and sponged the edges.

I tried to go a little bit scrappy again today. Sorry ’bout the bad pic. My camera had contrast issues.

Shameless card thievery

My Mom is a very talented card maker, but she often steals my designs because she has limited time and wants to just get it done already. She is in sales and gives handmade cards to all of her clients and co-workers. (Isn’t that cool?!?) She has printed my whole SCS gallery and has it on her craft table.

She copied one of my designs to use for several of her co-workers recently. Here’s her telling me the story:

Mom: You know those “you’re da bomb” cards that you made? I gave a bunch of those to my coworkers. Those cards were SUCH a hit! They gasped when they opened them and said “I can’t believe you made these!!!”

Me: What did you say?

Mom: I said thank you. I took FULL credit.

No shame in her game.

She doesn’t even comment on my blog! She just steals my designs and goes skipping off to her craft room….. 🙂

On to today’s cards. Elsa had a playdate AND Brandt was napping, about as common as a full solar eclipse. I didn’t waste the morning with things like cleaning or getting out of my PJs, I used my time wisely and made some cards!

First, my little tree. In the current SU! catty, there is a sample where they paper pieced the trunk of the tree. I thought that was interesting, so I filed that idea away in my head. Did you see the absolutely stunning card by Julie Ebersole where she stamped a cluster of Mini Flowers? I thought that would make a cute, bushy, tree top! I’m very pleased with this one!

Trees 2, Happy Birthday, Mini Flower, black ink, and blue notecard by A Muse, ribbon tape by Martha Stewart. PTI white paper, brown copic, celery and chocolate ink by SU!

For the next one, I reverse-masked the coffee beans and a little sky ink. Can you tell that they’re beans? They kinda just look like leopard…hmm. I need to outline my cup with a light blue Copic, I think. I’m not going to drag the light tent out again, though, so just imagine it. 🙂 It’s not my favorite card of all time, but baby woke up, so it was done!

To Go Cup, Coffee Break, What’s Brewing, blue notecard, black ink, all by A Muse. River rock paper and ink, sky ink, gingham ribbon, white paper, all by SU!

Thanks for stopping by today!

CAS Challenge

I’m arriving late to the CAS challenges, but I’m trying to make up for lost time with a hat trick!

This covers 3 of the past challenges…

CAS02 – One button will do!
CAS04 – Accenting with dots
CAS08 – Sketch

The white dot layer and the flower are Cuttlebug embossing folders. The cute sentiment is by A Muse.

It’s only 9am and I’ve already been to the gym and made a card. Go, me! I tell my husband that a card a day keeps Zoloft away, and it’s the truth! Taking some time for yourself makes such a huge difference in your mental well-being, especially for sahm’s.

I hope you can take some time for something that you enjoy today! 🙂

New Cards!

I’m using sets from three different companies on the cards below! I feel like a bit of a stamp-tramp.

First, my turkey card. My dad always called me a “jive turkey” when I was little. I hadn’t thought about that in years, but this stamp reminded me. I pieced the turkey, and colored him with copics. My coloring is sad, but I’m trying! It didn’t help that I only own 3 copics in the browns.

Lets Get Stuffed stamp set by CHF (Kim Hughes Collection)

This next card is for my first CAS challenge and I’m very late, but here is my card using punches. The sentiment is by Kitchen Sink Stamps. The one with the daisies, I believe. The punch is Frond by Martha Stewart.

On to the snowman. I LOVE this set!!! It’s by Saltbox Studios, it’s called Feb. Banner. I’ve had it for a long time, but hadn’t inked it up yet. It’s so sweet! Some people will be receiving these for Christmas this year! I pieced the snowman for dimension. The cute notecard is by A Muse.

A Muse Gerber Daisy OLCs

Here are a couple of cards using Gerber Daisy and Hello by A Muse. The orange version above has the daisies paper pieced for some fun dimension.

Both are colored with copics and have bubble stickers on the flower centers for shine and dimension.

eta: Duh! Forgot to add that these are for the A Muse challenge AMC03 over at the A Muse Lounge!

Why does it always rain on me?

I made this for a challenge over at the A Muse Lounge. We were supposed to create a card inspired by music.

It’s a very rainy day here today. I had the song “Why does it always rain on me?” stuck in my head. It’s kind of a melancholy song, so I decided to do a get well/support card.

One thing that you can’t see in the picture, I’ve gone over the rain, puddle, and outlined the clouds with a glaze pen, (which is like a pen that dispenses a thin layer of Crystal Effects). It makes them look wet and shiny. 🙂

I don’t usually build scenes, so I’m kind of proud of this one!! 🙂

All stamps, ribbon, and black ink are A Muse. Paper is SU!

Thanks for looking! Here’s the song that inspired the card:

Trendy Trees

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. I squeezed in some stamping time, here are a couple of Trendy Trees cards that I made:

The tree top is paper pieced, and I added a free-hand cut bit of wavy grass. The window frame is made out of Slumber Party print and textured chocolate papers.

I could have added more to the card below. I thought about a chocolate matte, a sentiment, some ribbon….but it just felt done to me. 🙂

Thanks for looking! I appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

Two Tag Cards

I’m really having a hard time carving out time to stamp with these children around. They have worked out a schedule where one of them is always awake!

Anyway, I did find a little time to play yesterday, so here ya go!

I put a little page pebble over him, it fits perfectly! I’m really bugged by a few flaws on this card, like my hovering snail and lack of grass on the tag. I remade the card, but then I messed it up at the very end. Then Elsa learned some new words. 😉

Rather than devote more precious stamping time to it, I decided to just accept the flaws and move on to the card below:

I think this turned out pretty darn cute! I love this monster! I paper pieced him for dimension. I love all of Missy Ballance’s artwork, I love her blog, and I want all of the adorable things in her Etsy shop.

All stamps (Snail, Snail Mail, Grass, MB Love Monster, Micro Oval, Sweet Friend) and notecards above are by A Muse. The metal-rimmed tags and ribbon are by SU! I used A Muse black ink and copics.
